Baby-Ao just turned 10 weeks (71 days) today.
He’s been more fussy and clingy the last week or so – often crying when I’m not around, or crying for no apparent reason but to be held. Whereas previously, I could leave him to amuse himself on the playmat in another room, or to hang out in his bouncer staring randomly into space, for several minutes.
He has even cried up a storm this weekend when we went for a (admittedly exceptionally) long walk – from about 3-6pm, across the park, including a late lunch at the South Kensington creperie – when he’s usually happy as a clam in the pram. Today, he started crying when I was paying for my groceries after ~1.5 hours in the pram, embarrassing and stressing me out, as I struggled to self-checkout my items on one hand, and unsuccessfully soothe him on the other. And he managed to cry himself purple and hoarse on my ~5-minute walk back home from the store. :-O
Last night, he also woke up at both 3am and 5am, and snacking for less than 10 minutes before dropping off again, in a slight regression from his recently improving sleep pattern.
I can only assume he’s having a wonder week, since he has been much calmer and more sensible recently.
The last 3-4 days or so, he’s been stressing me out even more with his strange feeding pattern. Instead of feeding with intent on a boob for ~20 minutes straight before switching, with only a brief ‘burp break’, he’s been feeding for less than 10 minutes (often just 4-5 minutes), then rejecting my boob. When I try to put him back onto the boob, he would push away with both hands, and sometimes even let out a scream and start scrunching up his face and crying, like I was bullying him. I keep trying to get him to feed more, because I’m worried he’s not getting enough milk. I’m not sure if he’s not drinking enough, or if he’s just gotten more efficient at feeding, as I haven’t managed to do a proper yield test. A couple of days ago, I did express milk in an attempt to do a yield test. But I certainly hope I was wrong, because there wasn’t a lot of milk… Need to check again one of these days. But for now, he’s still pooing and producing wet nappies, so I shall try to be calm until the next weigh-in. I was planning to weigh next when he reaches 12 weeks, but I might do it sooner if his feeding pattern continues to be so erratic.
