Ao rolled over from front to back today! At 12 weeks and 6 days (not even 3 months yet!) – which is really early I think, based on the books / websites I have looked up.
He had done it once before, ages ago – maybe around 1.5 months – accidentally I think, because he was agitated. And I never encouraged him after that, to avoid him developing too quickly and climbing out of the moses basket where he sleeps.
But today he has been doing it repeatedly – the first time I’ve put him on his tummy on a firm playmat instead of a cloth one which moves when he grabs it in his fists. So basically, he’s rolling over as soon as he’s been given the opportunity to do so, i.e. has a wide enough, firm surface to ‘crawl’ on.
I didn’t take the video of the first roll, because I wasn’t expecting him to start rolling so soon, but I did manage to capture his second front to back roll here. According to babycentre and some other books/websites, children generally only begin rolling at 4 months, and Baby-Ao was barely 3 months, especially if we consider the fact that he was dragged out a week early, kicking and screaming.
