Today marks the first time Baby-Ao has properly vomitted. Prior to this, he has only possetted or regurgitated milk post-feed. And as the saying goes, it doesn’t rain but it pours. In the ~10 hours since he woke up, he has vomitted 5 times! Basically, he has vomitted every time I’ve tried to feed him.
I brought him to the GP – and oh what an odyssey that was! – and the GP, who seemed more occupied over Baby-Ao trying to grab his stuff than about his symptoms, and whose English I could barely understand, pronounced that it’s probably a just virus and nothing is given to babies who keep vomitting. After he vomits, I should wait at least one hour before giving him water, and [at some point – I’m not sure when, since I didn’t understand him!!] I can give him milk or soup.
I suspect he has gastroenteritis, because I don’t think (I hope not at least) that he has the other possible causes of repeated vomitting as listed by NHS.
I think the GP thought Baby-Ao was fine because he seemed quite active and alert. And it’s true, he’s still relatively calm and well-behaved, and definitely still alert and relatively active. But he’s still not his usual self, and he’s much more irritable and drowsy than before – he’s A LOT less active (because he’s usually a pretty hyperactive baby), he gets sleepy just half an hour to an hour after waking up, and he whinges a lot more. So, according to the guidelines, there is something to be worried about!
And the stupid doctor didn’t even talk about the risks of dehydration, even though Baby-Ao seems to have a high risk. Per guidelines, vomitting more than 3x in 24 hours means that he has a high risk of dehydration. At the time of our doctor’s visit, Baby-Ao had already vomitted 4x!! The doctor didn’t suggest oral rehydration solution either! Although, technically it is possible he suggested it, but I just didn’t understand what he was saying.
I’ve been getting progressively more stressed and miserable that my poor Little Buddy isn’t keeping anything down that I cried after his fifth vomit. I’m going to try to keep calm and depending on how Baby-Ao seems tomorrow, The Boy and I need to decide if we should bring our Little Buddy to A&E over the weekend, or wait until Monday for another GP visit (which seems a bit pointless if we might end up seeing the same useless guy!!)
