Day 518 (Week 74) – No, he is not taking piano lessons. Baby-Ao was interested in the piano outside the theatre where we had just watched a performance, so I put him on the seat. He was surprisingly co-ordinated and “played” the piano quite well (not just banging). He definitely likes making music.
By “sings”, I mostly mean “hums”, except for “Ee ai ee ai oh” (from “Old McDonalds”), which he articulates quite well.
For the other tunes, there is often a hint of a shadow of words, which is why I know (or guess) that it’s in one particular language, even if there are songs with the same tune in different languages. The (language-specific) song he hums is listed first, followed by, in parenthesis, songs with the same tune in other languages that he is exposed to.
So Baby-Ao started “singing” songs in the following order, and these are the songs he sings quite well:
- “Twinkle twinkle little star” (“å°æ˜Ÿæ˜Ÿ”)
- “Ee ai ee ai oh” (he has sung just this phrase from “Old McDonald”/ “王è€å…ˆç”Ÿæœ‰å—地”, so it’s a bit unclear which language song he got this from, but I suspect it’s the English version)
- “Frère Jacques” (“Are you sleeping?”/”两åªè€è™Ž”)
- “London Bridge is falling down” (“伦敦é“桥倒下來”)
Additionally, I think he has also hummed the following tunes (albeit not as well as the ones above). I’m uncertain because prior to him humming the tunes, I have never sung these songs to him, but I suppose he must have heard them at nursery:
- “See saw Margery Daw” – I didn’t recognise this tune, but the nursery manager at his new nursery recognised the tune
- “Mary had a little lamb”
He has also started to occasionally hum “Au claire de la lune”, which is one of the songs we sing to him every night before he goes to bed.
