I went for another Swing class again, my second this week. I have now tried 3 locations.
And I even took two classes in a row – the beginner Level 1 class, and the slightly more advanced Level 2 class. And the teacher taught us the ‘Tandem Charleston’. Two weeks ago when I did my first ever Swing class in 20+ years, the teacher said they were doing 4 weeks of Charleston. I missed last week, but recognise a few familiar faces, which was great for me. I did two classes this week, which was nice in many ways, except that I was famished by the time it ended! Note to self: eat beforehand in future!
Again, I found it a lot of fun. I don’t know what is it about swing that I enjoy so much. I know it’s a very upbeat, fun, energetic dance, with a very friendly community, and quite funny teachers. I really wonder if there’s something about the dance format (lead / follow roles, needing to remain connected, the signalling / communication), or the way they teach it (e.g. building up and layering of skills, repetition, encouragement), or the role I’ve chosen so far (“follower”) which I particularly enjoy. I think it’s actually harder for the lead to dance.
But I finished the class very happy and high again – it’s an incredible dopamine hit for me.
