Had a full-body workout day today. Went for my first small group personal training session today, led by one of the “scarier” trainers, who did good cop with me, and bad cop with HV. Lifted up to 20kg in kettlebell deadlift format with no real problems (trainer commented I have strong legs). But for my hammer shoulder press, I dropped from 5kg to 3kg weights because my left shoulder was hurting badly – initially from the climb with HV, then more recently from yesterday’s climb – and I thought I was at risk of completely busting it. Did 8kg for my rows.

In the afternoon, I did my 40 minutes stretch workout from my Turbo Fire video, with the aim of stretching my shoulder. But it didn’t really have sufficient stretching exercises to help that. And my left shoulder was so out of whack that I felt like I couldn’t even do the tricep push ups that are part of the chaturanga move in the warm up section, and only did a very mild and modified slight elbow bend instead of full push ups.

And in the evening, I went to ‘Swing Den’, my first ever swing social. It started at 7pm, and I surprised myself by staying until the end (11pm), so that was good cardio. Although I didn’t dance all night. After the first 45 minutes or so of beginner’s class, I danced with somewhere between 5-10 people, and spent the rest of the time chatting or watching people dance. It’s really amazing to see so many different styles of swing dancing, and the mix of beginners and advanced folks all dancing on the same floor. It was rather confusing when I danced with people who do different footwork than what I’m used to (now I’m more used to the Lindy Hop six count and eight count, whereas I started off with the Charleston), or when they change footwork / beat during the dance… which confuses me. But apparently it’s a done thing, and totally normal.
