Went for my dental bone draft today. Heidi, who has done the procedure before, met me at my dentist before the surgery, where my doctor gave us a briefing on what will happen during the surgery, and post-operative care. It seems like I can barely eat anything in the first 24 hours post surgery, and a soft diet for the next 7 days.

The sedationist also spoke with me before the surgery, and asked me if I have had sedation before, and / or gotten drunk before. He gave me a briefing, and advice including not to do any work, avoid using the laptop / going online, sending emails and using social media. Because the effects of sedation, which can take 24 hours to wear off, can impair judgement, and if went online / used social media etc, I might end up doing things I regret.

Heidi met me again after the surgery, which I think went by faster than expected, because it seems the doctor brought forward all his other appointments for the day, and accompanied me home. Technically, the advice was for me to have an adult accompany me overnight and make sure I am safe and fine for 24 hours. But given I have had sedation before, with Baby F, and I seemed to be fine with it, what I did was just do a lot of pre-surgery prep – preparing food to eat (cut up vegetables for a juice, and cooked rice congee to eat), finishing up time-critical work before Monday, doing laundry etc.

I mostly slept right after the surgery, and was out for 3+ hours. I was feeling groggy, couldn’t do much (and was advised not to do much), and couldn’t really eat much… so this seemed like the ideal time to repay my colossal sleep debt. Soon after I woke up from my afternoon nap, I had a juice. My first meal since my midnight meal (instant noodles & eggs) the night before to load up pre surgery.

Heidi called me a few times during the day to make sure I was fine. Then I had some canned soup, and congee with chopped up spinach (I probably shouldn’t have used the knife, but oh well) and eggs for dinner.

I’ve then watched a few episodes of Umbrella Academy on Netflix, and should be tucking in soon. All in all, I would consider this a pretty successful day zero for my dental bone graft. My only slight concern is that I sneezed several times today, which cause vibrations which might impact the success of the surgery / bone regrowth.
