Weekend of 5-6 April were the dates agreed for the MHH and Donut to come over to focus on the refurbishing the kitchen, which is the most dire area within the flat. The garden, well… that’s another story.

MHH had given me clear directions that I had to empty the kitchen – all the contents of cabinets, and the countertop. I clarified if I need to empty the top cabinets too, and he said no need if I am not repainting.

Because I still need to use the kitchen to prepare meals, however crappy a chef I am, because eating out all the time is just not affordable… I naturally left some of it to the last minute.

O even had time to prepare French Toast for breakfast this morning. I was later told that MHH might have gotten a bit testy when he saw that my kitchen was not cleared, and may have commented that he would be furious if I hadn’t sorted it by the time they arrived. Hasn’t he heard of Just-in-Time production? 😉

Eventually I stripped the kitchen back before the crew (MHH, Donut, and Aunty M) arrived.

During the course of the afternoon, we de-greased the surfaces, filled in holes in the wall, painted a coat of paint on the walls and ceilings, painted a base coat on the cabinets, deep-cleaned the stove (even dismantling the gas hobs!), and tested the “fire engine red” paint on one of the kitchen cabinet doors.

Part 2 to follow…

The boys and I went to our local Malaysian for dinner, and then spent some time at our local playground – both of them beat me at monkey bars, and O beat me at dead hang…
